AIR in Summer is a set of two special episodes that expands on the Feudal-era arc. More light-hearted than the main series, it gives you more background on Kanna.
Sorry that this is such a large file size, but the bitrate is increased because of the complexity of the episode (for exmaple the rain in the first 5 minutes). As a result, these are more difficult to decode and if your computer is too slow, you may encounter problems (such as lag and desyncs). If this occurs, I recommend you try on a faster computer or with hardware accel., or if that doesn’t work, the 720p instead.
Thank you to once-off editor, Zetetic, and a new QC, Blaze-Senpai. Don’t forget we are recruiting. More info on that is here.

Just a quick update for those of you who follow us.
The next full project we will be doing is Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
We have decided on this because there are no DVD rips of it, and the TV rips aren’t exactly ideal either. No sub group did the series in its entirety, so all that exists out there are mixtures of various groups. This means that there’s no consistent sub styling or editing, video quality varies hugely as some is in Xvid, and some are hardsubbed. This is disappointing for such a great show, so we are going to give it the uguu~ treatment and bring it to you in high quality.
For those of you who have never watched SZS, I strongly recommend watching the first season (there are DVD rips by FuktLogiK available at BakaBT). Here is a link to the info page of ZSZS at MyAnimeList if you wish to read reviews.
Thank you if you voted on the site poll. It was an extremely close run between ZSZS and Lucky Star (which has similar lack of decent encodes), but in the end we opted for ZSZS. We may end up doing Lucky Star later, but we’ll have to see nearer the time.
AIR in summer
This is still in progress: we haven’t forgotten, so don’t worry. We hope to bring you the episodes shortly, though I don’t exactly know when. I suspect in the next few days, but I can’t promise anything. Hang in there!
Recruiting all roles
The reason for the AIR in summer slowness is actually due to many of the staff being busy IRL (mainly due to the start of the new school semester). With that in mind, anybody interested in helping out with uguu~ would be welcome to contact me (either by email at uguusubs@gmail.com or on IRC #uguu~subs@irc.rizon.net). Although experience with fansubbing is of course a plus, it isn’t needed and we’ll be happy to teach you what to do. The only requirement is enthusiasm :p. Most roles have vacancies so that includes: Timing, Editing, Typesetting/Karaoke, QC and many other miscellaneous jobs (like typing out hardsubs). Apply today!

I’m truly sorry, but it appears my version of mkvtoolnix (the mkv file generating tools) on my server appears to have messed up for a few of the v2s. Although they seem to play fine in Haali/MPC (which is probably over 90% of what anime viewers use), they did not play correctly in mplayer or VLC which wasn’t right. (Incidentally for those interested, mkvmerge just didn’t add the Doc type: matroska to the header… I have no idea why it didn’t do this.) This is why my QC team never caught it, because they all use Haali. In future I will endeavour to check compatability using more players before releasing. With that in mind, I made v3s for Ep1, 3 and 4 to fix this serious error.
This batch is just for the main series. If you are looking for the two specials (AIR in Summer), that is available to download here.
Torrents: 1080p (13.6GB) | 720p (4.9GB)
Xdelta patch files: v2-v3 for Ep1,3,4 patch files (less than 1MB)
XDCC: #uguu~subs@irc.rizon.net (pack lists here)
There’s not much I can do, but offer my apologies and to learn from this mistake for the future. Sorry.

I recommend getting the 720p torrent if you are not sure which to get. For one thing, it’s smaller and less demanding on your computer, so you are more likely to be able to play it smoothly, whilst still looking extremely good. The 1080p torrent is for those who require the very best quality without compromises, since it includes marginally better edge definition and lossless audio.
Holo from Doki very kindly made a frame comparison between Doki’s and my AIR encodes, which is available here. However, it is worth nothing that he is comparing my Ep1v1 and not the v2, which contained a few filter tweaks to futher improve the picture. Obviously, there are a couple of things that cannot be compared in a frame comparison, such as the script itself and smoothness of motion, so the frame comparison is not necessarily conclusive. We have made extensive edits to the script, and the OP is now silky smooth due to VFR (Variable frame rate). Before when we were using 24fps (like Doki) the OP was somewhat jerky as it is actually rendered at 30fps.
For those interested in a 720p v. 1080p comparison here are the appropriate images (shows the pixel differences): Image 1 | Image 2. As you can see, the main differences are at the edges where it provides ever-so slightly better definition. There are also a couple additional tiny advantages to the 1080p (assuming you are playing on a 1080p screen): 1) a 1080p is played straight back, but a 720p would have been downscaled by me and upscaled by your player, with the possiblity of some tiny quality loss. 2) some players/programs do not have very good upscaling algorithims, so there is the possiblity of unpredictable bad upscaling.
Our next mini project is Air in summer, whilst we decide on a full next project.

Phew! We’re very nearly there. Please refrain from posting any non-official batches as we will be doing v2s of Ep 1-4 in the coming days to get the best quality possible. Thanks.
Again suggestions for shows to do are welcome in the comments. I also forgot to say “thank you” and “weclome” to Theme97 who helped time Ep 11.

I told you it’d get done, and it did, albeit a little late. Sorry, but I’m now back from vacation. I appreciate your patience so that we can achieve the consistent quality needed. I expect the final episode (Ep 12) to come around a lot faster. Then I’ll whip out the 1-4 v2s and you shall all have a batch ^^.
We will also do the Summer specials later. The recap episode is not on bluray so that will not be done. We’re still int the process of evaluating new shows to do.
I’m aware that Holo over at Doki has started releasing AIR bluray episodes. I had a quick look but nothing detailed enough. If someone does a proper thorough comparison, I’d be interested to see it. At a glance the obvious differences are that he’s doing 720p and 480p, and that includes FLAC (making Doki’s 720p significantly larger than mine) and he’s using Koi subs (where as we’re heavily editing Koi to make it better XD).

I suspect that Ep 11 could be a little delayed, because a number of the team are at anime conventions and I’m in Tokyo myself. We’re trying our best, but suprisingly some of us have a life outside of subbing! It’ll get done, I promise.

Sorry for being a little slow, but you see we are still here as usual. Also the file size is a little bigger this week, but that’s just CRF for you (keeps the quality constant by varying the bitrate).
